Glass doors at ground level and 20 floors up
Start with the building. In a condo suite, ask the management office who looks after the balcony door. In a house, the door is yours, and the fault is often rollers, track or lock; sliding door repair sorts both. Tell us what the door is doing, and we connect you with an independent local pro who works on that kind of door.

Tower suites
Balcony sliding doors in condo towers
Balcony door won't slide or lock
Grit in the track, flat rollers or a worn latch, usually. Clean the track; leave lifting the panel at height to a pro.
Check who owns the door
In many buildings it's a common element. The management office can say whether the corporation handles it or you do.
Replacing a balcony door
It needs the board's approval before anything is ordered, and the building sets the look. The guide walks through the steps.
Houses and townhouses
Backyard patio doors: fix the parts or change the door
Drags, grinds or leaks at the sill
New rollers, a clean track or a resealed sill often bring back a backyard slider on a house from the 1970s to 1990s.
When a new door makes sense
A soft or bent frame, or glass and rollers failing together, points to a new door. Compare sliding, French and tilt-and-turn.
French doors with no screen
Hinged doors have nowhere for a regular screen. A retractable one pulls across when you want air, then rolls away.
Front doors and screens
Entry, storm and screen doors
Front door and sidelight glass
A cracked insert, a fogged sidelight or a dated transom. The glass can usually be replaced while the door stays hung.
Storm doors
A new storm door, a cracked pane or a closer that lets it slam. Each is usually fixed on its own.
Screen doors
A sliding screen that falls out, a hinged one that won't close, or a balcony slider that needs a mosquito screen.
Window screens
Torn mesh, a bent frame or a missing casement screen. A pro can rescreen, rebuild the frame or make one to size.
Rules that apply
Safety glass and permits: what applies to doors
Safety glass and same-size doors
Sliding and storm doors take tempered or laminated safety glass. A same-size door needs no City permit; a wider opening does.
The two heritage villages
In Meadowvale Village and Old Port Credit Village, door and glass changes are checked against a district plan. Ask first.
Balcony glass guards
The glass panels around a balcony are guards, not doors. Repairing guards needs a City building permit, condos included.

Where we help
Door help across Mississauga
We connect people with door pros across the city. Near the edge? Share your address and we'll check whether a pro covers it.
Tell us whether it's a balcony or backyard door and what it's doing
Send photos of the door, the bottom track and any damage, with the width and height if you can. We pass it to a local pro who works on that door.
