How a request becomes a quote from an independent local pro

What this site is: a referral service, not a glass shop

Windows Mississauga doesn't cut glass, sell windows or send installers. We read each request, work out what kind of job it is, and pass it on. Because we have no product to sell, we can explain the options first: a new part, a new sealed unit or a new window, and whether the choice is yours or your condo board's.

Who quotes you: independent local glass and window professionals

The pros we match you with run their own businesses and are not our employees. They include glass shops that replace sealed units and cut mirrors, window and door installers, screen and hardware repairers, shower-glass fabricators and, for shops and managed buildings, commercial glazing contractors.

We pass your request to a pro who does that kind of job and covers your address. The glazier trade is voluntary in Ontario: a pro can hold the certificate, but none is required to. The Skilled Trades Ontario trade page describes it. Ask any pro how often they do your kind of job and whether they carry liability insurance. In a tower, the management office may ask for proof of insurance before work starts.

What happens after you submit

1. Contact. The pro calls or emails with questions about size, access and timing.
2. Photo quote or visit. Photos can be enough to price a sealed unit or a single pane. For a whole window or door, expect a visit to measure. In a suite, mention the floor and whether the service elevator must be booked.
3. Written quote. Ask for parts, labour, removal and HST as separate lines.
4. Your decision. Say yes, ask questions, or say no.

What we follow up on

The most common complaint about glass jobs is a quote that never arrives. So we check that the pro has been in touch. If nobody has contacted you, or a promised quote hasn't come, tell us and we pass the request to another pro. We follow up on contact. Price, timing and workmanship are between you and the pro.

• You don't have to accept any quote.
• The contract, the warranty and the payment are between you and the pro, not us.
• If you sign a contract at home, Ontario gives you a cooling-off period to cancel without a reason. Ontario's guide to door-to-door and home service contracts sets out the steps. Ontario's limits on door-to-door selling don't extend to windows and doors, so read before you sign.
• Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002, a final bill can't go far above the estimate unless you agree to the change.
• We share your details with the pro only so the job can be quoted. The privacy policy says what we keep, and the terms of use cover how the site works.
